Pond Filtration Systems | Country Pond Filter Nutrient Reduction System

The Country Pond Filter is a biological pond filtration system that will help reduce nutrients in your pond. Nutrients that impact water quality may enter your pond from external sources like fertilizer runoff and when organic materials on the bottom are re-suspended or digested by microbial action.

The standard size Country Pond Filter is suitable for ponds up to one half acre and may work on larger ponds with cyclic nutrient loads. This system can be installed with no machine excavation providing a flat level surface is available near the pond. If digging a basin is required, you only need to dig down three inches and then use the soil to build up a rim edge of 3 to 4 inches. Instructions and installation support are provided if needed.

Standard Size System Kit includes:

  • 1 30mil liner 12ft x 12ft 1 20ft length of vinyl hose
  • 1 30mil liner 4ft x 12ft 1 sheet of geotextile ground cover
  • 1 1900gph submersible pump 120v 1 pump protector and mesh bag
  • 1 leaf netting cover 1 metal spill way
  • 1 container of endospore bacteria,  1 gallon of filter solution
  • 1 container of sodium bicarbonate, 1 accessory product package

** Not included are four buckets of pea stone gravel

Natural Pond Filtration System

Biological pond filtration systemLarge ponds with excessive organic nutrients ( phosphorous, nitrogen) often have problems with algae growth, duckweed or harmful cyanobacteria blooms. By reducing the nutrients through a biological process, the quality of the water and enjoyment of the pond will increase. The Country Pond Filter is a simple, highly effective recirculating pond filtration system that supports the formation of a beneficial algae biofilm and a complimentary probiotic bacteria colony.  When nutrient rich pond water flows into the filter basin, beneficial algae cells and heterotrophic bacteria reduce available ammonia, nitrates, phosphorous and other carbohydrates. This process of competing for nutrients helps to effectively clarify the pond water.

Benefits of installing a Country Pond Filter:

  • Effective, simple to install Pond Filtration System
  • Provides effective nutrient removal all year. Even during the winter
  • Easy to install
  • Filters sizes available up to one acre
  • Minimal maintenance required
  • Can be combined with aeration and probiotic bacteria treatments

pond filtration system for one acre ponds or largerMy Pond Filtration System: How Big Should My Country Pond Filter Be?

Farm ponds, fishing ponds, swimming ponds, and storm water retention basins with above average nutrient loads need approximately 100 square feet of filter area for every half acre of pond surface area.  A 10ft x 10ft Country Pond Filter pond filtration system is the right size for a half acre pond. We have used the standard sized filter for ponds up to one acre with intermittent nutrient inflow.

How Does the Country Pond Filtration System Work?

A small submersible pump is placed in the pond and pushes water into the filter. The water remains in the filter long enough for the algae biofilm to reduce nutrients. The Country Pond Filter pond filtration system is designed to run 24/7 until the nutrients in the pond are reduced to an acceptable level. The average cost to run the Country Pond Filter pond filtration system is approximately $.20 per day based  on a $.12KWH cost. We have found the algae biofilm to be viable during winter conditions when microbial bacteria and aquatic plants are dormant.

Winter Pond Filtration Systems Operation. Customers often run their filters all winter to minimize nutrients that support early season algae blooms and the progression of duckweed.

Microbial algae biofilms are effective at removing Nitrogen and Phosphorous nutrients from pond water as temperatures change due to seasonal conditions. Aquatic plant filters and bacteria filters have limited effectiveness as water temperature cools.
