The story of our Floating Gardens started eleven years ago when we tried to design a passive plant filter for ponds that could withstand winter ice conditions and still look good or close to it in the spring. After evaluating the efficiency of how aquatic plant root systems remove nutrients from the water we decided to go in another direction and left our prototype in one of our research ponds at our koi farm. Well this is the twelfth year it has survived the winter and already has begun sprouting growth of new moss and young plants. We decided last year to make another attempt at bringing flowering color and fascinating native plants into ponds that people enjoy.
